I got up this morning ready to do a lot of writing…I was set to get at least 2,000 words written. But I checked my Blogger home first.
I use Blogger in Draft, as I know many of you do. The advantage is that we get to experience Blogger’s new changes right before they’re released to the general public. I discovered today that Blogger has completely changed the design, format, and layout of the dashboard, and they have removed our ability to edit the HTML of our templates.
Now, they are currently asking for everyone’s opinions on the new changes, and, of course, have not released the new design to everyone. But after reading all the documentation I could find on the subject, all I could come up with is that they want to release the new design soon, and are excited about it. There was no mention of restoring the ability to edit HTML.
Because this would destroy many web design businesses, I have created a petition (widget on the right), asking Blogger to restore the “Edit HTML” capabilities for good, in draft home and regular home, and to not change that ability. I would greatly appreciate it if you, my loyal followers, would sign it. All information provided is kept private, and is only used for verifying that a real, actual person is signing for themselves and not making names up. =) Thank you all so much!

I must not be using Blogger in Draft, because I am still able to use the html. How does one use Draft? (I'm just curious!) And yes, if Blogger stops allowing us to edit html, then that is a very bad thing for a LOT of designers!
You can get to blogger in draft by going here - Blogger in Draft. Yeah, no kidding!!
I'm using blogger in draft, and I'm still able to edit html. Do you think they just opened it up to a couple of people or something?

Ummm... I visited my design tab with Blogger in Draft and I could still edit my HTML.
Is that going to affect the design for my website??
Melody and Eve - yes, they've been continually expanding the number of people they're releasing it to. The first people to see it actually saw it on April 19th. So yeah, as time goes by they're releasing it to more and more people, and then to everyone. (If things go as they're supposed to)
Sara - no, it won't affect your design. This problem is only affecting a select group of people, and right now it can be avoided. It's being tested, so it speak, right now, which is why I'm so concerned about letting them know what this means to us. But no, it won't affect your design. =)
Oh good! Have you had time to work on my design? I'm pretty anxious to get it finished! (=
Working on it tonight! =) I had intended to do it yesterday, but I had some computer problems that took quite a while to fix. =P I will do my best to send you an email tonight, though...and if for some reason I can't, I'll send it first thing tomorrow! =D
I can still edit my HTML. But, I signed it!
Thanks Brooke! =D
Hi Hannah,
Saw your post in my dashboard, and got curious. After reading it, I went to check out MY Design settings, and lo and behold...I can edit my HTML. Would you know why that is?
Wow, okay, thanks for the link to the Blogger Draft. I'm not sure I even knew that it existed! I did go and look at the layout tab, and I don't see anywhere to do html, so maybe for users who just got onto Draft, it's already gone? That is sad. :(
Lady Rose - yes, that's because they're slowly growing the number of people who are seeing the new design. It was actually first released on April 19th, and has taken until now to be available to me. It'll take another few weeks for it to be available to everyone who uses Blogger in Draft.
Eyebright - yep! =D Yes, for lots of users of Blogger in Draft it's already gone, and it makes me sad too. =P
Thank you SOoOoOo much for posting this! I've already used it on my blog and it gives it a professional look. Thanks again!

Ok, that makes sense Hannah - I signed the petition. Thanks for letting us know about this and doing something about it!
~Melody
Thanks for telling us about this. I've also signed the petition. I'm just wondering, does this effect normal Blogger as well, or just Blogger in Draft?
You're welcome, Annie - and thanks for signing it! =D For now it just affects Blogger in Draft, but because Blogger in Draft is the test site for all of Blogger's new designs/additions, it will become permanent for all users at some point.
I signed! Man, why did blogger do that, do you think? Are you still open for doing someone's (like me ☻) design? If you can reply on my blog so I can be sure to see it, that would be GREAT!!
Hi! Just wanted to let you know that with the new blogger in draft site, you can still edit the HTML. Simply go to Template and scroll down to the bottom to either Edit Template or Revert to classic templates. Have a lovely day! :)
I got on Blogger in Draft, and they have made a way to edit HTML, it seems. You just click on the blog you want to modify, go to "Template," scroll all the way down and click on "Edit Template." This may not be the same for other people, but I'm glad they brought it back!
Thank you, girls! I appreciate the update - and what a relief!! Glad it's back to normal. =D
